At the beginning of the first lesson I will ask you to sing a part of a song, so that I can listen and observe what you are doing. I will analyse how your voice is working at that point, tell you what I hear and see and suggest what we could work on. That might be for example how you approach your breathing, tension in the neck, what you do with your jaw, the position of your tongue or how you use your resonance. I will give you exercises that will address one aspect at a time to help your voice function more efficiently. I encourage students to record the whole lesson, so that afterwards they can revisit the exercises, listen to the differences in sound and keep practising with the recording.
Of course there is no good singing without great pitch and timing. We will work on any weaknesses in pitch and timing, on phrasing and dynamics, and I will ask you to always listen with focus and intention to what you hear.
In the end it is all about expression. Vocal technique and musical skills are eventually tools to be able to express yourself fully with your voice. How do we make our singing or speaking expressive? I will give you exercises to feel the difference between neutral sound and expressive sound, and you will learn to switch on your expressiveness and communication while you are singing or speaking.

I also offer online lessons. Online lessons take place via Zoom, and you can record the whole lesson, so you have a video to work/practise with. You can follow all lessons online, or blend in-person and online lessons.
To work as efficiently as possible in our first lesson, it is helpful if you prepare and bring along at least two songs. Preferably one song that you can sing easily and one that is challenging for you. If your focus is on your speaking voice, you can also prepare a short text.
Your private lesson time has been reserved exclusively for you. If you need to cancel, I require a minimum of 24 hours notice or I have to charge for the missed lesson.
